Why We Exist: The Mission Behind the Sahra Bulle Foundation
It began with a tragedy no mother should ever have to endure.
In 2023, my daughter, Sahra Bulle, was taken from this world too soon. She was brilliant, kind, and full of life, a young woman with dreams as expansive as her heart. Her loss was not just mine. It was a wound to our community and a call to action that could not be ignored.
From that grief, the Sahra Bulle Foundation was born. Not as a memorial, but as a living force for change. Our mission is rooted in Sahra’s spirit: to raise awareness, empower survivors, and unite communities in ending gender-based violence through education, storytelling, and action.
Education is our first tool and our strongest defense. When communities learn to recognize the signs of abuse, when survivors are equipped with resources, and when bystanders understand how to step in safely, cycles of violence can be broken before they begin.
Our work began with the #IamSahraBulle Conference, a space where voices once silenced could be heard, honored, and amplified. The first gathering in 2023 lit a spark. In 2024, the momentum grew, with survivors, advocates, and community leaders coming together to share knowledge, strategies, and hope. Now, in 2025, we prepare for our biggest conference yet — one that will mark 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, reminding us that the fight for equality and safety is far from over.
We also walk, not just in memory of Sahra, but for every woman and girl whose story ended too soon, and for those still fighting to live free from violence. The Walk to End Silence began in 2024 as a visible, unignorable statement: we will not look away. In 2025, we will walk again, louder and stronger, our purple ribbons telling thousands of stories without a single word.
This is why we exist.
To honor not only Sahra, but every woman and a girl silenced in harm.
To educate and protect others.
To turn silence into collective power.
If you join us, you are not just supporting a cause — you are carrying forward Sahra’s light.
1. Education as Prevention
We offer free toolkits, workshops, school programming, and digital courses to raise awareness and prevent violence before it begins.
2. Storytelling as Resistance and Healing
We create intentional spaces for survivors, caregivers, and changemakers to share their stories—on podcasts, in journals, and through creative campaigns that center lived experience.
3. Community as Catalyst
We believe local action can lead to national change. Through events like the #IamSahraBulle Conference, the Ribbon Campaign, and grassroots partnerships, we mobilize communities to speak up and stand together.
🌍 Why This Work Matters
Because gender-based violence still claims lives.
Because too many survivors are still silenced.
Because education and advocacy can interrupt the cycle of abuse.
And because when communities come together, change becomes inevitable.
We do this work so that what happened to Sahra never happens again.
We do this work in her name—and in the names of all who never got the chance to tell their story.
